The best way to understand research software is to understand the needs that motivated it. The Research Software Portal documents research needs as “use cases”, each use case describing something a researcher, educator, student, or research computing specialist needs to be able to do. In the Portal, you’ll find descriptions of use cases, activities aimed at enabling use cases, and software delivered by those activities. We offer comment and rating features so you can help us understand the context for each need. And of course, you can describe research needs that aren’t already listed here.
