Results from the XSEDE User Requirements Evaluation and Prioritization (UREP)'s November 2019 review of use case priorities are posted on the Research Software Portal. (Results from previous reviews are also available.) The UREP periodically reviews newly proposed capabilities (aka use cases) for the XSEDE system and provides prioritization guidance.

Have you ever thought, "I really wish I could _____ when using this system?" That idea is a "user story," and it's the starting point for a new system feature. Sharing these ideas for new features is now easier to do, thanks to the Research Software Portal (RSP).

XSEDE has published a second major version of its Community Infrastructure use cases. These use cases describe how XSEDE supports "community infrastructure" for research and science. The XSEDE system is explicitly intended to be open and extensible. Unlike a stand-alone system, XSEDE is a framework for delivering research services and applications.

XSEDE has published a third version of its Campus Bridging use cases.  These use cases describe how campus information technology (IT) administrators and campus-based research projects: (a) treat XSEDE's resources as extensions of their campus environments, (b) offer services at their campuses to others in the XSEDE community, and (c) deliver new services to their campuses that leverage XSEDE’s experiences and solutions.  The third version includes four new use cases identified by XSEDE's Cyberinfrastructure Resource Integration (XCRI) activit

During December 2017 and January 2018 the UREP reviewed a set of seventeen newly proposed use cases for the XSEDE system and rated their importance in light of the community’s needs. The proposed use cases came from a variety of sources, including the Community Engagement & Enrichment (CEE) team, discussions at conferences, staff proposals, and a project-wide needs analysis.

XSEDE's Cyberinfrastructure Integration area (XCI) recently published new use cases describing how XSEDE personnel and community members need to manage and use group definitions. In its simplest form, a group definition is a list of people that needs to be maintained and used for some ongoing purpose. Typical purposes include access control, communication, and project management.

XSEDE's Community Infrastructure area (XCI) recently published new use cases describing two important community-building features of the XSEDE system: community infrastructure and Service Provider (SP) integration. These two documents describe how the XSEDE system facilitates information sharing and coordination between XSEDE, its Service Providers (SPs), and the research community at large.

The results of a December 2016 priority assessment conducted by the XSEDE User Requirements Evaluation and Prioritization Working Group (UREP) are now available to the public. The UREP reviewed XSEDE's plans for new system features and descriptions of user needs that had been submitted in 2016 and ranked their importance to the XSEDE user community. XSEDE will use this assessment to guide its system improvement activities in the first half of 2017.

The XSEDE community has documented a number of use cases describing how Service Providers (SPs) integrate their services and resources with XSEDE. At the present time, the focus for these use cases is on two sub-issues: (1) providing and maintaining availability and status information to the community, and (2) coordinating security-related issues. We expect that more of the resource-integration experience will be documented in the future as time allows.
