Find out how to use V-Ray RT as a bona fide production renderer in 3ds Max, even in a compositing-based pipeline. V-Ray RT has caught up to the standard production renderer in Max, with an engine that can take advantage of CPU and GPU processing; it's no longer just a tool for quick preview renders. This course shows how to set up V-Ray RT as an ActiveShade renderer and start adding geometry and cameras, creating animations, applying materials and lighting, and adjusting render settings for a professional-looking, efficient render in 3ds Max. Brian Bradley teaches all these techniques as he progresses through a mini-project, concluding with a brief chapter on compositing your final render in After Effects. The examples help show how V-Ray RT can be put to use in a simplified real-world production scenario, where speed and flexibility are equally important.

Color bleed is a common problem in global illumination (GI) renders, as colors are transferred by means of indirect light reflection. By understanding how light works in the real world, and using 3ds Max and V-Ray to mimic that behavior virtually, you can prevent most color bleed problems. Join Brian Bradley as he demonstrates the causes of—and solutions for—the color bleed that occurs in V-Ray GI renders. Learn how to control color bleed in a physically accurate manner (as you could on a real-world set), and by using GI-specific tools along with other nonphysical controls such as Materials Overrides and the V-Ray Object Properties dialog.

CSS sprite sheets have opened up another door for web motion, allowing you to efficiently animate a series of images—anything from button states to character poses. In this quick course, Tom Green shows you how to animate a character's walk cycle by creating a sprite sheet in Flash, editing in Fireworks, and putting it into motion (and into your HTML) with Edge Animate.
