REVIEW-7: SDIACT-032 Improved GRAM5 packaging and customization - Joint SD&I Test and Operations Readiness Review

This review verifies the test readiness for "SDIACT-032 Improved GRAM5 packaging and customization" and will be conducted jointly with SD&I and Operations. The Globus Resource Allocation Manager (GRAM) simplifies the use of remote systems by providing a single standard interface for requesting and using remote system resources for the execution of "jobs". The most common use (and the best supported use) of GRAM is remote job submission and control. This server update activity provides XSEDE-specific packages for Globus GRAM version 6, which includes bug fixes and security updates, but no significant new functionality.

• (David) SLURM scheduler missing
  • Eric added globus-gram-job-manager-slurm-setup-poll
    package but there doesn't appear to here a slurm Scheduler Event Generator package.
• (David) Are sites using SEG (Scheduler Event Generator)? On Stampede, observed that SEG scans on log files took a long time
  • Eric noted that for Slurm, there is only a poll package so should not run into that issue
• (Galen) Is this GRAM release backwards compatible with older release
  • Yes
• (Lisa) Unable to install gatewayUserCount.
  • Eric found the tgz file needed to be zipped and fixed
• (Lisa) Got patching error when installing RPM
  • Can happen when reinstalling with first uninstalling. Eric suppressed error messages.

Documentation and Installation instructions: The deployment plan for this CI on XSEDE is clearly described as well as the installation instructions and any XSEDE specific configuration instructions.

Test environment and facilities: The test environment needed to adequately to validate this component is described. Should indicate also whether testing can be performed within a VM and if not, the reasons for it.

Assumptions: Lists any assumptions needed before testing can begin (e.g., accounts needed).

Test procedures, cases, and scenarios: Lists the tests that should be run or an associated test suite and expected performance metrics if applicable.

Defect, issue, and risk reporting: Deployment plans should include defect and issue reporting information. The testing plan could reference that same information from the deployment plan, or provide alternate information if defects and issues need to be reported differently during testing. Risks, as well as defects and issues, should be part of the testing report.
